Aside from being a child-friendly city, Davao City is also Senior Citizen-friendly. Recently, the city government of Davao approved the request of our senior citizens to construct their federation office inside the Osmena Park. This place will also be the “tambayan” of our senior citizens who are looking for comfortable and refreshing ambiance. The place is shaded by large trees and planted with different kinds of plants so they can enjoy the coolness of the place.

Davao City has been the example of many cities across the Philippines when it comes to governance and implementing ordinances. When the Anti Smoking ordinance was strictly imposed in the city, many Dabawenyos were made aware of it. Those who resist the ordinance will learn their lessons well by paying the respective penalty or if not they will find themselves behind bars. Another ordinance in Davao is the speed limit ordinance. This ordinance gained many positive as well as negative reactions. Some of those who were greatly affected were the drivers and operators of public utility vehicles (PUVs) since their income were lessened. Commuters on the other hand complained the dragging speed limit because it caused so many delays. Some people, especially those who were extra cautious on things, appreciated the ordinance since it teaches people how to be disciplined and law abiding citizen. Many public and private drivers obeyed the rules because of the penalty imposed. This is also the reason why the increasing vehicular accidents in the city are dropping.
