Before the malls reigned in Davao City, C.M Recto St., also known as Claveria, was a place for movie theatres that offers local and international films. This street was one of the busiest streets in downtown area because most of the business establishments stood here.

As years passed many malls had emerged in Davao City, namely Victoria Plaza, Gaisano Mall of Davao and Gaisano South. Because of this, C.M. Recto movie theatres toned down.  Later on, movie theatre owners decided to offer sexy films so that they can survive the competition.

Today, these movie houses are owned, or leased by different businesses. Other spaces were rented by religious groups as their prayer house. Renovations were also made by some of the theatre owners for their own new line of business.
